We have Artists in Residence at the Dock Museum on Saturday in Barrow in Furness. Meet Cathy Holmes & Tracy Garnett and talk to them about their work.
And on Sunday we are at Art in the Park - Ulverston Ford Park between 11am and 3pm.
Cathy Holmes has been painting for about 20 years. Initially studying with Helene Burrows at Barrow Disability Centre evening classes, to whom she is very grateful. Here she learned the basics of acrylics, watercolour and colour theory.
A soft pastel demonstration by Greg Howard at Barrow Society of Artists made her curious to try this ‘new to me,’ medium. She says she ‘is now hooked on these sticks of pure pigment.’ Cathy has given demonstrations herself showing the magic of the art of soft pastels at Barrow Society of Artists.
Inspiration to Cathy comes from the beauty of the local National Park, The Lake District, which often seeps into her work in vibrant colours.
She also enjoys painting animals and has done many pet portraits.
Cathy displays some original work in Home Images, Duke St, Barrow in Furness and is a Committee Member for Barrow Society of Artists.

Tracey Garnett has always enjoyed drawing and painting from being a child and took a particular interest in colourful buildings, landscape and folk art.
Watercolours are her favourite medium, especially vibrant colours with rich pigments. She writes, ‘I like to outline with ink to create a sketch style to my art with no straight lines or convention. My favourite artists are Gustav Klimpt and Vincent Van Gough. ‘She enjoys their outer-worldly images and colours.'

There is so much to see in the Dock Museum Exhibition.
We hope Art in the Park on Sunday is a fantastic local event too. There are things dotted all around Ulverston to interest all tastes for Art Lovers and Artists alike!
