If you’re an artist living in the Furness area, you might have heard whispers about a vibrant community where creativity blooms and friendships flourish. That’s the Barrow Society of Artists for you! I’ve been part of this lively circle since 2020, and let me tell you, it’s more than just a club. It’s a place where artists of all skill levels come together to learn, share, and showcase their work. So, grab a cuppa and let me take you inside this fantastic group.

What Makes the Barrow Society of Artists Special?
The Barrow Art Group isn’t your typical art society. It’s a welcoming space where beginners and seasoned artists alike feel at home. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the focus is on growth and enjoyment rather than competition. Whether you’re into watercolours, acrylics, oils or sketching, glass art, pottery or experimental art there’s a spot for you here.
One of the things I love most is the regular meet-ups. These sessions are a mix of workshops, demonstrations and talks, and social gatherings. You get to try new techniques, get feedback, and just chat about art with people who really get it. Plus, the group organises a showcase exhibition if we can book a venue to do so. This gives members a chance to display their work publicly. We also support other art events arranged in the area by art groups and initiatives and create a few open events for the public to attend ourselves. It’s a brilliant way to gain confidence giving artists the opportunity to maybe even sell a piece or two if they so desire!
How the Barrow Art Group Supports Your Artistic Journey
Joining our Barrow Art Group means you’re never alone in your creative journey. The group offers:
Skill-building workshops & Demonstrations: From portrait painting to landscape techniques, there’s always something new to learn.
Mentorship opportunities: Experienced artists are happy to guide newcomers, sharing tips and tricks.
Exhibition chances: In local galleries and community art events and if we can book somewhere a yearly art exhibition to showcase our Artist work and diversity in creating Original Art.
Social events: Art-themed meet-ups, visits to art events, and even outdoor sketching days.
A Community of Artists: Founded in 1953 with the purpose of Artist teaching Artist in an accessible place.
Contact : With other artists

I remember when I first joined, I was nervous about showing my work. But the encouragement I received was incredible. The group’s supportive vibe makes it easy to push your boundaries and try new things. The art world is a difficult place to navigate and to learn from others dedication to art and producing fantastic works even after knock backs, or navigating difficulty is insightful and inspiring. Sharing successes and failures is part of being an Artist. We welcome members from beginning their art journey to accomplished professionals. I fell in the bracket of intrepid but enthusiastic beginner.
