A Workshop at Barrow Society of Artists What Makes the Barrow Society of Artists Special? The Barrow Art Group isn’t your typical art society. It’s a welcoming space where beginners and seasoned artists alike feel at home. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the focus is on growth and enjoyment rather than competition. These sessions are a mix of workshops, demonstrations and talks, and social gatherings. You get to try new techniques, get feedback, and just chat about art with people who really get it. Plus, the group organises a showcase exhibition if we can book a venue to do so. This gives members a chance to display their work publicly. We also support other art events arranged in the area by art groups and initiatives and create a few open events for the public to attend ourselves. It’s a brilliant way to gain confidence giving artists the opportunity to maybe even sell a piece or two if they so desire! - February- Encaustic Wax Workshop by Marilyn Hale
Work by Programme Organiser Steve Cook from an earlier Encaustic Wax Workshop Encaustic Wax Art Creation Workshop On 2nd February at 7pm at Hawcoat Memorial Hall a workshop for members of Barrow Society of Artists has been arranged led by Marilyn Hale. Last year we enjoyed Marilyn's Glass Fusion Workshop so much we rebooked her. Marilyn has many years experience and many techniques to teach us all! So, I am looking forward to the Encaustic Wax Workshop which is a new process to me. Photos from last Year's Fused Glass Workshop by Marilyn Hale. What is Encaustic Wax Art? Encaustic painting is an ancient technique in which heated wax and pigments are applied to a surface such as wood or specialized paper. The term comes from the Greek enkaustikos, meaning “to burn in,” referring to the heat used to fuse layers. Marilyn will lead us through the process of creating our own Encaustic Wax Art. We have specialist paper and irons at the ready for members who would like to participate in this workshop. Places are limited for participation so if you want a space get there early! Others can watch the demonstration and process used by Marilyn Hale to create this fascinating Original Art Work. All equipment needed will be provided to try this process at the demonstration so you don't need to bring anything. Workshops are a great way for Artists, who usually work on their own, to meet other Artists, learn some new techniques and share ideas and experiences. We have a tea and coffee break halfway through. Marilyn Hale at Art in the Park with her Glass Art and some of her Framed Encaustic Wax Work Membership Applications and Renewals are Still Open Membership applications are still currently being taking for this year.
